Ally Cat Boat Trip: Setting Sail in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Earlier this year in January, my family and I went on a week-long vaca in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Not only did we all eat our weight in fresh guac and chips and vegan tacos, we sat in the sun for hours burning our bums off (responsibly, as we are all avid sunscreen wearers), walked around the lively area of Puerto Vallarta’s Zona Romantica, and went on an unbelievably boat trip with Ally Cat Adventure Sailing.

It was bliss.

Especially the boat trip. With Ally Cat Sailing, we had the opportunity to set sail from Puerto Vallarta and explore secret beaches, Humpback whale watch, and admire the alluring Blue-footed Boobies. I still dream about it — even if I did get a bit sea sick!

Keep reading to find out more about our unbelievable boat trip (you’ll no doubt be green with envy and yearn to go on a sailing adventure with Ally Cat yourself!).

And when you’re done reading about the boat trip, check out these tips for traveling in Mexico! You’ll totally want to know these so to make sure nothing goes wrong.

SETTING SAIL WITH ALLY CAT ADVENTURES IN PUERTO VALLARTA

The Boat

It was the perfect day as we drove from the Zona Romantica to the La Cruz Marina; not a cloud in the big blue sky, the sun was just peeking over the mountains surrounding Puerto Vallarta, and the temperature was just right.

As our Uber pulled up to marina, it was filled with incredible yachts and superb sailboats. I’d never seen so many beautiful boats in my life! Although, the one that really caught my eye was the Ally Cat Catamaran.

A glorious 56ft luxury yacht enhanced with a state-of-the-art surround sound system, a relaxing galley with comfy sofas, and an enormous boom-netting area perfect for sun bathing. There were also two bathrooms (yes, two!); one for males and another for females.

In the galley, Ally Cat guests found the bar, complete with a variety of liquors, beer, and sodas!

Although, my choice of drink was a refreshing piña colada, which was perfect for sipping on whilst relaxing on the vast deck! Even better? The amazing crew took care in making my drinks and food vegan for me. It was amazing!

The Food and Drinks

Who else loves unlimited food and drinks whilst sailing in the middle of a beautiful ocean on a relaxing boat? Me, me, me! And if you go on a Puerto Vallarta excursion with Ally Cat, you will too, no doubt.

Although, if you think you won’t be able to eat or drink anything due to dietary restrictions, fear not! The crew does everything in their power to make sure you’re happy — which includes going out of their way for dietary needs.

For me, personally, they made sure I had vegan food and drinks to keep me happy (and a little tipsy at the end of the boat trip, LOL). Regarding the food, I was very happy with the beans, rice, roasted veggies, fresh fruit, and unlimited piña coladas available for me!

Funny thing is? I was so happy with the Ally Cat food and drinks I completely forgot to take pictures! Sipping on vegan piña coladas — okay, okay, more like inhaling — really took up all my attention. Whoops!

Ally Cat Activities and Adventures

Even though the food, drinks, and crew were absolutely amazing, the best of this Puerto Vallarta cruise was the activities.

Not only did we whale watch and explore the Marietas Islands, we also went snorkeling with manta rays and colorful fish in coral reefs, paddle boarded in crystal clear waters, bird watched for Blue-footed boobies, chilled out on secluded beaches, and partied on the boat listening to rad jams.

Although, my favorite part was the snorkeling.

I’ll never forget the moment we were swimming around the Marietas Islands, pointing out rainbow fish and ocean eels, when a manta ray the size of a car swam under the group.

No joke — this thing was enormous! I’d never seen one so big or so majestic; the way it gracefully glided through the deep waters below and disappeared amongst the coral reef. It was unbelievable.

Humpback Whale Watching

Although the activities were phenomenal, the star of the show (or shall I say, the star of the boat trip) were the Humpback Whales.

If you decide to go on a boat trip from Puerto Vallarta with Ally Cat Adventures, definitely go between the months of December and March. This is prime time for Humpback whale watching, when the male and female whales congregate for mating season in the Bay of Banderas!

It’s awesome. Relaxing on the boat while watching the more whales than you can count on your two hands break the surface of the water, showing off their enormous bodies and slapping their tails on the waves.

Secret Beach Chilling

As we finished up snorkeling around the Mariates Islands and exploring the little caves they had to offer, we had the opportunity to swim at a secret, secluded beach. With it’s crystal clear waters, soft white sandy beach, and gorgeous surrounding views, it was a glorious way to end the boat trip.

Once we were finished at the secluded beach and everyone got their fill of paddle boarding, jumping off the boat, and exploring the little crooks of the island, we started to sail back to the bay to finish the day!

The Ally Cat Crew

Before I go, I just want to say a little bit about the people who ultimately made this trip fantastic: the Ally Cat crew members.

The crew not only went out of their way to make sure each and every one of us on board were happy, they made us laugh with their jokes and japes, personally got to know each individual by name, got us up on our feet to dance around the boat to what was terrible but fun music, and were more like friends than crewman.

They even made my dad get up and dance to Michael Jackson’s Thriller… which was painfully hilarious to watch.

Without this fantastic group of guys, the Ally Cat Adventures would not be the same! They are what make this Puerto Vallarta excursion great and I can’t wait to hopefully do it all over again in the future.
