Like so many other travelers, I have a few items I could never travel without.

Whether I’m heading out on a just a short, weekend getaway or embarking on a long-term venture, there are some things you won’t find me leaving behind. One essential item you won’t find me traveling without is the Blossom Cup.

Boys, this is where you turn around and walk – or run – the other way.

Because this right here — the Blossom Cup — is strictly for women only! And, my oh my, what a glorious little item it is. But before we get into it, let’s go over the nitty gritty details of this thing.

What is a Blossom Cup?

The Blossom Cup is essentially a period cup — or as my boyfriend likes to call it, a plunger. Which is absolutely, 100% incorrect, as the Blossom Cup keeps things in, whereas a plunger gets things out.

What a silly misconception.

(But if we’re being honest here, it definitely looks like a mini plunger…)

Anyways, being a period cup or reusable menstrual cup, the Blossom Cup is essentially a replacement for tampons. Instead of using multiple tampons per cycle or per day, the Blossom Cup is 100% reusable. Once you think it’s full, all you need to do is slip it out (which isn’t hard, whatsoever! Seriously.), empty it, give it a lil’ wash, and pop it back in!

It’s super duper easy and so much better than tampons.

But… is it safe?

It’s absolutely perfectly safe and I’d say probably safer than tampons. Unlike tampons, the Blossom Cup is made purely out of FDA approved medical-grade silicone and it doesn’t have the risk of toxic shock syndrome (woohoo!).

The Blossom Cup works by acting like a bowl of sorts, catching your menstrual flow rather than soaking it up.

As it’s a silicone menstrual cup, it’s designed to fit comfortably, staying in nice and snug. I can definitely attest to the fact it’s no doubt waaaay more comfortable than tampons!

Most of the time, I’ll forget I’m even using the Blossom Cup. For real, it’s so soft and comfortable! It’s shaped to fit and conform to you, rather than you accommodating for it.

Plus, it’s non-toxic and reusable — good for the environment and good for me! A win-win in my book.

Bonus: the Blossom Cup is also vegan (and yes, when I did message the company about whether or not it’s vegan, they did tell me I cannot — under any circumstances — eat it… lol).

Is the Blossom Cup Worth Traveling with?

No doubt, the Blossom Cup will damn near be your holy grail. At least, it was mine! Throughout the years, I’d been using tampons like crazy. I’d get my period and go through at least half a box of regular — or even heavy — tampons. It was horrible.

And don’t even get me on the subject of pads! I absolutely hate those things with a passion. I feel as though using a pad is similar to sitting in a pile of your own sh*t.

Ewwwwie. 

So, a little over a year ago, I was searching for other options. I’d just booked my one-way flight to Bali for my Southeast Asia backpacking escapade and, probably like most other females, I didn’t want to carry around a huge box of tampons with me for months on end.

After scouring the internet for hours, I finally came across my little miracle item: the Blossom Cup.

Another traveler had recommended it and, thanks to her, it’s now one of the many essential items you won’t find me traveling without! Unlike a big, bulky box of tampons or pads, the Blossom Cup only takes up a small amount of space! It’s about the size of clementine, easily fitting in the palm of my hand.

Additionally, being made of silicone, it’s super duper light! Thus, it adds nearly no weight to your suitcase or backpack. Another fantastic win!

So, who is a menstrual cup for?

If you’re a traveler aiming to pack light or use your suitcase space as efficiently as possible, the Blossom Cup should be your go-to item to replace tampons or pads.

Or, if your just someone who’s completely over using tampons or pads and wants something that’ll do the job more effectively, switch to the Blossom Cup.

Orrrr, if you’re looking to be more environmentally-friendly and want something which is just as reliable (or even more so) as tampons and pads, the Blossom Cup is definitely perfect for you, as it’s 100% reusable and won’t leak (when inserted right*)!

Undoubtedly, whatever you’re looking for, whether it be something more effective, something more environmentally-friendly, or something lighter to travel with than a box of tampons, the Blossom Cup is your metaphorical knight in silicone armor.

I know for a fact I’m never — ever — switching back to using tampons or pads. They just don’t work as great for me as the Blossom Cup does. When using it, I feel more secure and I find it’s more comfortable. Plus, I feel as though I’m doing the world a favor by using less waste materials!

Overall, it was just the best option for me as a frequent traveler and as a female who hates getting her period.
