Staying at a hotel with a crystal-clear and luxurious private pool has always been something I’ve dreamed of. So when I was planning mine and Dan’s honeymoon trip to Greece and saw the incredible Monastery Estate Retreat hotel pop up on my Booking.com list, I knew it was fate.
Not to mention, at only €200 ($214/£176) per night for their Junior Retreat with a Private Pool and Mountain View, this is a complete bargain compared to some other hotels that offer private pools! In just a few minutes, I had this place booked and secured for our one week trip to Crete.

Exceptional Location
When staying at Monastery Estate Retreat, you’ll find that this rejuvenating hotel is in a remarkable location. It’s situated far enough away in the Cretan countryside for a peaceful experience, yet close enough to the village of Sougia for all the amenities and day trip adventures you could ever want.
In just a short ten minute drive (psst, you should have a car when you stay here — I recommend renting one through Kayak!), you can reach Sougia and the southern cost of Crete. While Sougia is very small, it has a good number of amazing restaurants, tavernas, and beachside bars.
Additionally, it’s located right on the coast, so you’ll find a great beach with lots of reclined beach chairs if you want to relax by the sea for a day or two!
When we stayed at the Monastery Estate Retreat hotel, we ventured into Sougia almost every day for food, drinks, and groceries, as well as exciting adventures, like a ferry trip to Loutro and hike to Lissos Beach.
Loutro, in particular, is an exceptional day trip from Sougia! When you stay at the Monastery Estate Retreat, don’t skip out on this incredibly beautiful and tranquil destination. You won’t be disappointed!
