Looking for the best vegan food in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area? From vegan-friendly eateries to full-on vegan restaurants, this cool list written by a Minnesota local lays out all the top places to grab mouth-watering plant-based food in the Twin Cities (and yes, there’s totally vegan donuts on here!).

BEST Places for Vegan Eats in Minneapolis / St. Paul, Minnesota.

As someone who grew up in Minnesota and who has visited the cities area literally dozens of times over the past few years, this list has been a long time coming!

Every time I visit, I seek out a new restaurant, cafe, or eatery to try!

But believe me, there are SO many different establishments in MSP serving up great vegan food (which would be too much for this list).

Nonetheless, here are my favorites in the area!

BEST PLACES FOR VEGAN FOOD IN MINNEAPOLIS & ST. PAUL

For this foodie list, I’m going to break it down into 3 sections: vegan, vegetarian, and vegan-friendly!

Though most places in the Twin Cities will have at least one vegan option (and, no, I’m not talking about just french fries), I do try to hit up the fully vegan restaurants to give them most of my love — and money, obvi.

Vegan Restaurants

First things first: let’s talk about the best 100% vegan restaurants in Minneapolis and St. Paul! I’ll start with one of my personal favorites…

J. Selby’s

A top favorite amongst Minneapolis vegans, J. Selby’s is a 100% plant-based establishment serving up things like burgers, wraps, tacos, wings, dessert, and even vegan brunch on Sundays!

(Which, heck yes, totally includes bottomless mimosas for the small price of $15.)

In fact, while I write this post, I’m still majorly full from my absolutely incredible vegan breakfast sausage burrito at J. Selby’s (…and 2 or 3 mimosas).

Believe me, if you’re in the Twin Cities area, this is a hot spot for veggies!

Trio Plant-Based

Want to know something crazy?

I never tried cornbread before I went to Trio… and OMG, their cornbread blew my mind.

To be honest, I had no desire to try cornbread but wowza, now I’m itching to make it at home! (Or, to be even more honest… go back to Trio to have theirs.)

When visiting, I ended up going for their Soul Food Platter, in which you choose 3-6 of their other offerings for one big plate of goodness.

I got the maple cornbread, collard greens, mac and cheeze, and housemade BBQ ribs. All of it was incredible and I highly recommend you give it a try!

Herbivorous Butcher

If the owners of this place could just follow me everywhere and make me mind-blowing fake meats and vegan cheeses, that would be great.

Another exceptional personal favorite of mine, the Herbivorous Butcher was the first vegan deli in the United States, opening its doors in 2016.

Since then, the sibling-owned business has been perfecting all different types of fake meats, including pepperoni, ribs, deli meat slices, steak, sausages, and more.

Nowadays, they’re even creating vegan cheeses, like cheddar, havarti, gouda, and pepperjack!

Without a doubt, this is a vegan’s heaven.

Personally, I’m a big fan of their korean ribs and to-go turkey dill havarti sandwich! It’s SO good and literally tastes just like the real deal.

But don’t forget to also grab a tub of their homemade vegan ranch (especially if you’re someone like me who dips anything and everything into this delicious sauce!).

Vegan East

Searching for a sweet vegan treat while in the Twin Cities? Head to Vegan East!

An all-vegan bakery in the Minneapolis neighborhood of Uptown (or White Bear Lake), you’ll find an array of goodies like cupcakes, cinnamon rolls, vegan poptarts, brownies, and more.

I’m a massive fan of their homemade poptarts, cookies, and bars — which change regularly!

On two separate occasions (this is a must-stop for me when I’m in the area), I’ve gotten a snickers cookie — packed with chocolate, caramel, and peanuts — and a s’mores bar!

Both tasted like heaven.

Fig + Farro

A gorgeous fine dining vegan experience, Fig + Farro is serving up unique vegan meals that’ll tantalize your tastebuds!

Bursting with flavor, you’ll find the Fig + Farro menu features beautiful vegan dishes like truffle risotto, seared squash, mediterranean pizza, chili sin carne, patty melt, and lasagna.

While I’ve never personally eaten here (but will soon!), I’ve talked to a plethora of vegan Minneapolis locals who’ve raved about the food here! Especially their homemade lasagna and recently introduced vegan breakfast.

Seed Cafe

A lovely little cafe on the outskirts of Minneapolis, the Seed Cafe is a great place for deliciously healthy vegan eats!

From Buddha bowls and salads to fresh juices and smoothies, you can get in all your vitamins and minerals with one of their fresh plant-based meals.

Personally, I’m a big fan of their rice bowls!

When visiting, I go for the Wanderlust bowl, while Dan goes for their Peanut King bowl. Both are completely and utterly delightful!

The Seed Cafe is also a great place to grab a vegan brunch in Minneapolis! You can sip on $6 mimosas and munch on great breakfast food — like french toast, breakfast burritos, avocado toast, and even a vegan chickpea frittata.

Vegetarian Restaurants

Next up is vegetarian restaurants in Minneapolis + St. Paul! The following places have an abundance of delicious vegan dishes to try (like biscuits and gravy – YUM!).

Hard Times Cafe

Located smack dab in the center of Minneapolis, Hard Times Cafe is a favorite amongst college students due to its ridiculously affordable meals, delicious food, kinda grungy, unpretentious atmosphere; and, according to one reviewer, “damn good baked goods!”

While it’s not my favorite place for vegan food in Minneapolis, it’s absolutely perfect for those who are on a budget but still want some tasty plant-based eats.

Though, one thing I’ve noticed about this place is people either love it or hate it (those who love it go back again and again; those who hate it rip on it and step foot here twice).

My advice? If you want vegan food at a good price, give this place a try and form your own opinion about it!

Whole Sum Kitchen

What started as a small vegetarian food truck in 2015 turned into a booming vegetarian cafe in 2016!

This place is serving up smoothies, salads, wraps, chia pudding, waffles (on weekends only) and gorgeous coffee drinks — but the real gem here is their cold-pressed juices!

They pride themselves on offering nutrient-dense, vitamin-packed, delicious fresh juices. In fact, they even offer multi-day juice fast packs. Cool, right?

Vegan-Friendly Restaurants

Finally, here are my favorite vegan-friendly restaurants in Minneapolis/St. Paul! From Italian food to Thai food and even some vegan donuts, this list hits every craving and is perfect if you have a group of both carnivores + herbivores.

French Meadow Bakery & Cafe

Hands down, this is one of my FAVORITE places to grab a vegan breakfast in Minneapolis! While it’s not a 100% vegan establishment, they have seriously perfected their vegan offerings.

I’ve stopped by here multiple times, having the flavorful tempeh reuben, classic vegan breakfast, lemon raspberry muffin, blackened tempeh tacos, and more — each thing tasting better than the next!

French Meadow is a must when in the area!

Plus, with 2 locations — one in Minneapolis and one in St. Paul — it’s easy to fit into a Twin Cities trip.

Amazing Thailand

As someone who has visited Thailand on multiple occasions, and has even taken a vegan Thai cooking class, I can wholeheartedly say this is THE BEST Thai food in Minneapolis!

Personally, my go-to item at Amazing Thailand is the papaya salad (made vegan, of course) with tofu.

Crisp green papaya, crunchy carrots, juicy tomatoes, spicy chili, perfectly fried tofu, and an overall fresh flavor… my mouth is watering just thinking about it!

But if you’re not a papaya salad fan, the curries here are incredible, too! And don’t forget to give their mock duck a try — so good.

Red Rabbit

If you’re looking for the best vegan pizza in Minneapolis, look no further than the Red Rabbit in the North Loop or St. Paul!

With their flavorful, uncomplicated, authentic Italian cuisine, the Red Rabbit will no doubt become one of your favorite places in the cities. (Yes, it’s totally become one of mine!)

Particularly, their vegan pizza has skyrocketed to the top of my best-ever-eaten vegan meals list!

With spicy Impossible Meat sausage, garlic, house-made cashew ricotta, roasted tomatoes, kalamata olives, basil, and a little drizzle of chili agave, this is hands down the best za my tastebuds have ever had the pleasure of sampling.

Not to mention, their mocktails are totally delicious, too! I tried the lilac revolution and holy moly, it was like drinking a sweet melted popsicle.

If you’re heading out on the town with both meat-eaters and veggies, definitely check out the Red Rabbit. Everybody will be happy with what’s on the menu!

Glam Doll Donuts

Is your sweet tooth aching for some ooey, gooey, fluffy vegan donuts?

You need to head to Glam Doll Donuts.

Many will agree with me when I say this is where you’ll find the best vegan donuts in Minneapolis!

From simple vanilla with sprinkles to oreo, they always have around 5-6 vegan flavors on hand for you to munch on.

Every time I’m in the cities, I have to stop here for at least one donut (okay, okay, usually 3 or 4…)! It’s a must if you’re a donut lover turned vegan.
